How to Increase Your SEO Traffic in 30 Days

Day 1: Choose your top 30 traffic posts

If not, you could still see some gains in your SEO efforts. It just won’t be as dramatic, so use what you’ve already published.

On day one, choose your best-performing articles that get the most traffic.

I hope you have Google Analytics installed and can figure out what those posts are quickly.

To do so, just follow these steps:

  • Click “Behavior” in the left navigation menu.
  • Click on “Site Content”.
  • Click “All Pages”.
  • In the middle pane, scroll down to the 10th result and change the dropdown next to “Show Rows” to “50”.
  • Write down the top 30 pages that are getting the most traffic. Exclude pages like the home page, blog page, category pages, contact page, about us page, etc.

With your list of top traffic articles in hand, you’re done for day one. Tomorrow, we’ll start the search engine optimization process so that this content will rank even higher in Google and drive more traffic to your website.

Day 2: Find the right SEO keywords to boost

Today, you’ll identify which SEO keywords will deliver the fastest improvements for each of your top traffic pages.

To do this, you will need access to two things:

  1. Google Search Console: I hope you already have it installed on your website. If not, now is the time to add Google Search Console so you can crawl your site’s keyword data.
  2. Keyword Research Tool: I prefer KWFinder by Mangools (cheap with a free trial) or SEMrush (better with a free trial). But you can also use Ahrefs (paid), Keysearch (paid), Ubersuggest (free,e), or Google Keyword Planner (free).

Using Google Search Console for SEO Traffic in 30 Days

  1. Open Google Search Console.
  2. Click on the “Performance” tab in the left menu.
  3. In the middle of the Performance screen, click the “New” button and choose “Page”.
  4. In the pop-up box under the “Filter” tab, choose “Containing URLs” and paste the URL of the page you want to increase keyword rankings and traffic for. Then click on “Apply”.
  5. Below the graph, you will see a table with several columns. Make sure “Queries” is selected. Then click on the “Impressions” header column until it is sorted in descending order (highest to lowest). This will show you which queries are getting the most impressions.
  6. Now look at the queries on the left side of the table and make a list of terms that are showing that you didn’t use as an exact match phrase on the page.

Step six here will give you a good list of keywords that Google thinks your page is about, but you’re still not well-optimized.

How to use the Keyword Research Tool

  1. Open your keyword research tool of choice.
  2. Search for the main keyword you want the page to rank for.
  3. Make a list of related keywords that the tool suggests. Try to write down as many keywords as possible that are directly related to your page content and searcher intent.

For example, if we were targeting the keyword “best SEO strategies”, I would write down these terms as suggested by my favorite KWFinder tool: “best SEO strategy”, “best SEO practices”, “best SEO practices”, 

I would not include these keywords that are also suggested because the search intent is wrong: “best enterprise SEO tools”, “5 best SEO tools”, and “best backlinking sites”.

Now do the same process with Google Search Console and your keyword research tool of choice for all the pages you are targeting to increase traffic in 30 days.

A good rule of thumb to remember how many keywords per page to focus on is two to three sentences minimum. But try to go higher if you can, and if your content is long enough to include them without sounding contrived.

Day 3: Add secondary SEO keywords

And since you made a list of those keywords for each post, this process should be quick.

How to add secondary keywords to content

  1. Open one of your articles.
  2. Add 3-4 instances of each keyword missing from the page content. Try adding an example in the introduction, one or two in the middle, and one near the end of the article.
  3. Save the page for your new changes to take effect.

Rinse and repeat this for all your posts.

Day 4: Compare your content to the competition

The fourth day of the 30th will be a full day of writing. But in the end, it will be worth your time.

If your webpage is not ranking in the top five results of Google, then it is probably missing some information that the search engine wants to find in the content.

You can easily fix this by visiting your competitor’s pages and seeing where the content gap is. Then you can close that gap to start earning more SEO traffic.

How to Close the Competitor Content Gap

  1. Select one of the pages you want to increase SEO traffic to.
  2. Do a Google search for the page’s main keyword.
  3. Examine each competitor’s page and note the outline and structure. Pay attention to the words used in the H2 and H3 headings, as well as other important information on the page that helps the user.
  4. After analyzing the top five competitors, make a list of the sections and content that are missing from your page.
  5. Add the missing elements to your page.

When you’re done with this process, your page should now be a combination of the best content that’s already ranking high in Google. And once Google recrawls your page, you should start to see an increase in SEO traffic because the content is serving the user much better.

Day 5: Improve Your SEO Title Tags for SEO Traffic in 30 Days

As mentioned in my related post on how to improve your SEO fast, optimizing your title tag is an easy way to get a quick boost in keyword rankings and traffic.

The title tag is also called the “meta title” and is the title of a web page that appears on the search engine results page.

The experts at Page Optimizer Pro found that the “meta title proved to be the undisputed strongest on-page SEO signal” through a series of tests. So it’s a critical element to getting good search engine optimization.

Moz provides some best practices for a good title tag, including:

  • Place the keyword closer to the beginning of the title (preferably first).
  • Don’t stuff your keywords.

So on this day, you’ll want to go through all of your articles and correct the title tags so they fit that criteria. That way, the person must click on your page to satisfy their curiosity.

For example, here’s a good title tag below that focuses on the keyword “how to get featured snippets”:

Contrast that with this title tag which is less click-worthy and doesn’t follow Moz’s suggestion of placing the keyword as close to the beginning of the title as possible:

Day 6: Optimize your meta descriptions

And while it’s no longer a Google ranking factor, the meta description is still an area you can use to your advantage to get more SEO traffic.

Google often rewrites your page’s meta description, pulling other relevant information from the page unless you write it correctly.

How to write the best meta descriptions

  1. Choose one of the pages you are updating.
  2. Go to Google and search for the main target keyword for that page.
  3. See meta descriptions being pulled into the top 3 ranking pages.
  4. Notice how they are structured and which words are in bold.
  5. Copy the same format and be sure to use the same words in bold.
  6. Keep it under 160 characters.

Repeat this process for all of your pages and hopefully you’ll start to see a higher click-through rate to your content within the next 30 days.

Day 7: Optimize your H1 tags

Today’s task to increase your SEO traffic should be very quick for you.

As you already know, SEO is important for online success and what we are going to do here is optimize the H1 tags on your pages.

And according to Google’s recommendations, you’re encouraged to “match your page’s meta title and H1” and changing the order a bit isn’t a big deal.

Then, on day seven out of 30, just go through each page and make sure your H1s match the meta headings you wrote on day five. They don’t have to be 100% the same but try to keep them as similar to each other as possible. I go into more detail about this in my post on H1 SEO best practices.

Day 8: Optimize your H2 and H3 tags for SEO traffic in 30 days

On day four, you compared the content of each top traffic page to the competition. And then you closed the content gap by adding the missing information.

During this process, for 30-day SEO traffic, you should have added more H2 and H3 on the page to match what your competitors were doing. And that’s important because Blake Akers of Webology found that the number of H2 tags you have on the page will matter to your keyword rankings. For example, if the page you are trying to rank for only has two H2 tags, but all of the top 10 ranking URLs on Google have 15 H2s or more, it will be difficult to get to the first page of the search engine results page (SERP ).

Now, let’s take it a step further by optimizing the H2 and H3 tags for better SEO.

  1. Open one of your articles.
  2. Place your main target keyword in the first H2 of the page.
  3. Put as many secondary keywords as you discovered on day three into the other H2 and H3. Once
    for each is enough.
  4. Use variations on the H2 and H3 to mix things up so that not all instances are the same.

Day 9: Add outgoing authority links

And I’ve experienced good results from doing it myself. That’s why you will find many external links on this page.

Therefore, linking to authoritative sources on your pages can help your content get more SEO traffic.

So try to find links to other sites that feature experts in your field that can back up the claims you make or provide additional information on key topics.

Day 10: Add optimized internal links

Internal linking is an often underused trick for improving SEO traffic. 

For example, this is an internal link to my post on On-Page SEO vs Off-Page SEO.

Spencer Haws of Niche Pursuits conducted an internal linking case study to find out how many ranking boosts he could get for a single post by adding a few internal links to that post and doing nothing else.

How to Add SEO Traffic Optimized Internal Links in 30 Days

  1. Choose one of your pages to focus on internal linking.
  2. Find 3-5 other pages on your site that have a content section related to the landing page.
  3. Within each of those 3-5 pages, add a keyword-optimized internal link to the landing page. Use the target keyword you want the page to rank for as the link’s anchor text.
  4. Save the pages for your new changes to take effect.
  5. Wait 30 days and see if rankings and traffic improvements on the landing page.
  6. If not, create 3-5 more internal links to that page. But this time, vary the anchor text a bit so it’s not an exact match each time.

Day 11: Optimize your ALT tags

ALT text describes content within an image on the page. And you can use that HTML field to improve your SEO score for the page.

To use this tip, follow these steps:

Here are some tips on how to implement this SEO method quickly:

  1. Open one of your pages.
  2. Add an image to the page if it doesn’t exist. 
  3. Include the primary target keyword within the ALT text field.

If you can, try to have at least one image on the page for each major keyword you are targeting. That way, you can increase the SEO value for the most important keywords on the page.

Day 12: Optimize your image filenames

On day 11 of 30, you optimized ALT tags for images. Today, we’re going to replace those images with more optimized image filenames, keeping the ALT tags updated.

Image file names are a good place to add your SEO keywords. According to Adolab, “It’s a good idea to use keywords in your image filename because it signals Google that you want to rank for that term.” This will also help your images show up in Google text search results and image search results pages for even more SEO traffic.

Improving the SEO for your image filenames can be done in these steps:

  1. Open one of your pages.
  2. Locate the source of the images being used on the page.
  3. Change the filenames for each of these images so that they target the selected keywords. It’s best to combine the keyword-optimized ALT tag with the appropriate image filename.
  4. Use hyphens between words in the image file name instead of underscores.
  5. Replace the current image on the page with the same image with the new keyword-optimized filename.
  6. Keep the ALT text the same as what you wrote on day eleven.

Day 13: Add structured data

Structured data is also known as Schema Markup, and is HTML markup used to help search engines like Google provide more informative search results.

When applied correctly, Structured Data can help your pages appear in Google’s rich snippets that are most visible on search results pages (SERPs).

Structured data is extremely useful for a user and can make your pages stand out in search results, which can increase your SEO traffic quickly. It’s so useful that Google created a free Structured Data Markup Helper to make it easier to harness its power.

So spend today looking at this tool, then going into each of your pages and trying to add as much schema markup as possible. If you’re using a CMS like WordPress, you can easily get a free plugin that can help you add this information to your pages without much effort.

Day 14: Add a signature and author biography

Search engines like Google want to present the best search results to their users. And if you can meet Google’s criteria for providing a good experience, authority, and reliability (commonly known as an EAT) on a topic, you can easily get more SEO traffic to your website.

Ahrefs has an entire article on EAT and SEO, but the sentence that matters most here is: “[Google] raters look for a variety of things to assess trustworthiness, including whether the site states who is responsible for the content posted. ”

For this reason, you must credit an author on every page you want to rank higher in the search engine.

Now, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to this, but there are some recommendations you can follow to get the most impact on your website.

  • Add an author’s signature to the top of the article.
  • Link the signature to a detailed author biography page.
  • On the bio page, list and link to all the articles the author has written for the site.
  • In the bio page, link to the author’s social media profiles and anything else online that help establish your identity and authority.

An optional measure, but one that I like to use, is to add an author bio box at the bottom of each article as well. This box should include the author’s photo, name, a brief description of their experience, and a link to read their full biography.

Day 15: Improve your page speed

Page loading speed is of great importance and you need to make it a priority for your entire website, not just the pages you want to increase SEO traffic on.

My recommendation today is that you start the process of improving your page speed. If you’re new to site speed optimization, Crazy Egg has some good tips here to help you get started.

And if you can’t figure out the best way to speed up your website or just don’t want to tackle this task yourself, then you can always outsource to a web developer to get the job done quickly.

Day 16: Optimize for Top Web Vitals to Boost Your SEO Traffic in 30 Days

Today is related to the 15th but goes one step further.

Google introduced Core Web Vitals in 2020 as a common set of signals that it considers critical for all internet users. 

The purpose of Core Web Vitals is to quantify the user’s experience with a website, considering a page’s visual stability and load time before being interactive. So it includes speed and how a user interacts with the page.

Key metrics for Core Web Vitals include:

  • Highest Content Painting (LCP): Measures page load speed and marks the point at which most of the content on the page has been downloaded.
  • First Entry Delay (FIP): quantifies the speed of the first initial engagement a user can have with a page.
  • Cumulative Layout Change (CLS): This measures the amount of layout change in the page’s visible content (i.e. the visual stability as the page loads and scrolls).

You can check the current state of Core Web Vitals on any web page and get recommendations for improvements through Google’s Page Speed ​​Insights tool.

And again, like on the 15th, if the idea of ​​this task is strange to you or if you don’t want to waste time trying to figure it out for yourself

Day 17: Identify and fix keyword cannibalization

Keyword cannibalization occurs when you have too many identical or similar keywords scattered across multiple pages on your website. As a result, a search engine like Google cannot discern which content should rank higher.

When keyword cannibalization happens, you may experience lower SEO traffic. This is because two things can happen:

  • The wrong page may rank for a target keyword.
  • All pages with the shared keyword may experience a ranking drop.

So today is a good day to focus on fixing any keyword cannibalization issues your pages may have.

Now, you can use a paid SEO tool like SEMrush or Ahrefs to find the pages that are suffering from keyword cannibalization or get free Google Search Console data.

Identifying keyword cannibalization with Google Search Console

  1. Open Google Search Console.
  2. Click “Performance” in the left-hand navigation menu.
    In the middle pane, you’ll see a list of queries your site gained impressions and clicks from.
  3. Click on one of the queries related to the top traffic pages you’re focusing on this month.
  4. On this new screen, click on the “Pages” tab to see a list of the URLs that rank for that query and the associated stats.
  5. If you see more than one-page rank for the query and a large number of impressions for each, then you have a keyword cannibalization problem going on.

You can do one of three things to fix keyword cannibalization issues to increase SEO traffic:

  1. Merge the content from the low-ranking page into the high-ranking page for the target keyword. Then delete the poorly ranked page. Then use a built-in 301 redirect rule to redirect all traffic from the deleted page to the page with the merged content.
  2. Completely delete the poorly ranked page without copying the content to the higher ranked page. You’ll also want to use a 301 redirect to redirect all traffic to the best page.
  3. Remove the target keyword and all similar words from the lowest-ranking page so
    it can be de-optimized for those terms. Over time, this page will stop competing for the same keywords as the highest-ranking page. Hopefully, it will start to rank for its own set of keywords and drive more traffic.

Day 18: Create Local Citations for Your Business for SEO Traffic in 30 Days

Citations can have a direct impact on local search engine rankings; however, they are not just beneficial for brick-and-mortar businesses. Local citations can also be used to improve rankings for national and online-only websites, as explained by this case study from Diggity Marketing.

Essentially, building local citations for any site can result in easy backlinks and an increase in trustworthiness; both of which Google values ​​highly when ranking web pages in its search engine.

Day 19: Find guest posting opportunities

Guest blogging, also known as guest posting, is the act of writing content for another company’s website.

The goal of writing a guest post is to appear on similar blogs within your industry to:

  • Drive traffic back to your web pages (by including links in the content or author bio).
  • Many companies are already capitalizing on the power of writing and guest posting because they know the value behind it.

So your task today is to find guest posting opportunities for your own business. The goal here is to create a list of as many sites as possible that want to feature you as a guest blogger.

There are two easy approaches you can take to finding these opportunities and best of all, it’s free on Google. All you have to do is use some keyword search operators on Google’s search engine and it will return a list of results that meet your criteria.

In the examples below, simply replace [your keyword] with a keyword related to your niche. Then include the other search operators exactly as you see them with the + sign and quotation marks (“).

  • [your keyword] + “write to us”
  • [your keyword] + “write to me”
  • [your keyword] + “become a contributor”
  • [your keyword] + “guest post”
  • [your keyword] + “blogging guidelines”
  • [your keyword] + “guest posting guidelines”
  • [your keyword] + “contribute”
  • [your keyword] + “guest column”
  • [your keyword] + “submit a guest post”
  • [your keyword] + “accept guest posts”

When performing these searches, you will find sites that have dedicated “write us” pages. These pages should contain contact information and criteria for how to submit a guest post. Just follow the instructions to connect with the site owner to get featured.

Finding hidden opportunities based on other guest posts

Not all sites will advertise the fact that they allow others to write for them. If so, you can use the search operators below to find content written by guest bloggers on these sites. You can then contact the site owner and ask if you can provide a submission to be featured.

  • [your keyword] + “guest post by”
  • [your keyword] + “guest contribution”
  • [your keyword] + “guest author”
  • [your keyword] + “guest blog”
  • [your keyword] + “guest column”
  • [your keyword] + “guest article”
  • [your keyword] + “contributing writer”
  • [your keyword] + “sponsored post”
  • [your keyword] + “sponsored content”

Day 20: Write your guest posts

After spending day 19 finding guest posting opportunities and reaching out to site owners to get featured, you’ll probably have to wait a day or two until you hear back from some of them.

In the meantime, you can start writing some of your guest posts to have on hand when those responses come in.

Just pick a general topic related to your business and write a few different articles.Put as much effort into these articles as you would for content you would publish on your website.

By following these guidelines, you can increase your chances of your guest post being accepted in the first draft.

Day 21: Analyze your competitors’ backlinks

Alexa has a great blog post on why you should conduct competitor backlink analysis. And there are two main things mentioned on that page to explain why it’s important:

  1. It allows you to see which websites your competitors are using to boost their rankings.
  2. It allows you to emulate a competitor’s strategy to gain the same backlinks.

Regarding the first point, after performing a competitor’s backlink analysis, you can find out which links are the most valuable to your website. And as point number two implies, it allows you to copy what’s working for your competitors so you can improve SEO traffic at a faster rate.

Now, I won’t go into detail on how to do backlink analysis here because every tool is different. Instead, I’ll list the top online tools you can use for this process below.

Simply gather a list of your top competitors’ URLs for each page you’re working on in these 30 Days of SEO Traffic Improvements and start pasting them into the tools below. Some are pad, while others offer several free surveys before registration is required.

Once you’ve figured out which high authority pages are linking to your competitors, make a list of those sites in preparation for tomorrow.

Day 22: Do some outreach

Now that you have a list of your top competitors’ backlinks, it’s time to start reaching out to linking site owners to try and get your link added to their sites.

This is just a matter of finding the site owner’s contact information and asking what opportunities they have for guest posting and sponsored content.

So spend today writing emails to as many of these website owners as possible to start the conversation on how to get featured content as well as a link back to your website.

Day 23: Create Web 2.0 Sites for SEO Traffic in 30 Days

They are mostly in the form of blogs, forums, and wikis where user-generated content can be posted and uploaded for free.

Yes, it’s a subdomain and your page’s authority will start with a ZERO goose egg. With just a few strong links, any web 2.0 can go from PA 0 to PA 30+. In addition to authority, you are also gaining a super-relevant link. 

Do not forget that.”

So today’s task is to sign up for 10 web 2.0 sites.

Day 24: Publish articles on Web 2.0 sites

This will be a full day of writing content for the Web 2.0 sites you signed up for yesterday for SEO traffic in 30 days.

To get things going quickly, you can follow this plan:

  1. Log in to each of the 10 Web 2.0 sites.
  2. Choose the first article on your website that you want to increase SEO traffic to in the next 30 days.
  3. On the first Web 2.0 site, create a new blog post and write a 500-700 word summary of the page you are focusing on.
  4. Within that blog post, include a link to the landing page for people to read the full article.
  5. Use keyword-optimized anchor text in the link.

Once you’ve completed the above process, you can immediately go to the next Web 2.0 site and write a different summary for the landing page you’re focusing on. Just repeat the same steps above but write completely new content.

Once you’re done, move on to the next site until you’ve completed a new blog post on all 10 Web 2.0 sites. When you’re done, you’ll have 10 new backlinks to that landing page.

Now, I admit that this process will probably take more than a day to complete, as there is a lot of writing involved. So, try to get as much done as you can on the 24th and then pick it up again during the 25th-30th after completing the necessary tasks for those days.

Day 25: Create social media accounts

If you don’t already have social media accounts for your business, now is the time to set them up.

Go to these sites and register an account for your brand:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • Pinterest
  • Reddit

That’s all the work you need to do on the 25th. To fill the rest of your time, keep writing and publishing on your Web 2.0 sites.

Day 26: Post SEO-optimized links on your social accounts

Today, you’ll start adding links back to the pages you want higher SEO traffic to from the social media accounts you’ve created.

  1. This process is very quick and simple:
  2. Log in to the social account.
  3. Create a new social account post that includes a link to the landing page.
  4. In the description, be sure to include how many keywords you want the landing page to rank for. Just use those keywords naturally in the description so it doesn’t feel forced.
  5. Rinse and repeat this strategy for all the social accounts you’ve joined.

Now, I don’t suggest that you publish a new social post for every page you are driving for an improvement in SEO traffic all at once. Or even throughout the day.

Instead, just post about 3-5 of your articles and continue with this strategy for the next one to two weeks. If you post too soon, it can be seen as spam.

Day 27: Create a YouTube Channel for SEO Traffic in 30 Days

You only have one task for today, and that is to create a new YouTube channel. Google owns YouTube and it is an easy-to-use tool to increase your SEO traffic.

Just follow this guide from Google to set up your YouTube channel. And be sure to link to your website in the About section of the channel.

Day 28: Turn your top 30 traffic posts into videos

While video SEO-rich snippets have largely been phased out of branded platforms, for relevant queries they appear with YouTube results.”

Bright Edge goes on to say, “A well-ranked video and well-done YouTube SEO can help increase exposure even on standard SERPs. A popular video that inspires a lot of people to click through to the brand’s website can also indirectly help boost your own website’s rankings.”

Also, every YouTube video you upload gives you a new opportunity to add a backlink to your website.

As you can see, YouTube is a powerful platform to improve SEO and website traffic. And you don’t need to be a professional videographer or editor to harness the power of this platform for higher rankings.

Today’s goal, in this 30-day SEO traffic blueprint, is to turn your top traffic blog posts into video content.

Contract this task to a freelancer on Fiverr who can handle all the work for you.

Whichever path you take for video creation, here is the general strategy to use here:

  1. Choose the article to turn into video content.
  2. Make a list of the main conclusions of the article.
  3. Create a short script for your video using these key points.
  4. Use free videos or images to rotate in the video.
  5. Add a free background music track.
  6. Insert your script into a video using text effects.

Day 29: Upload the videos to your YouTube channel

The next step to using your YouTube channel for SEO purposes is to upload the videos you created on the 28th. If you’ve signed up for this job, just upload them as you get them back.

During the upload process, including the main keywords you want the video and landing page to rank for in the title of the video. Don’t put too many keywords here, but make it look natural.

Also, include as many keywords and secondary keywords as possible in your video description and tags. Again, write something that sounds natural without keyword stuffing.

Finally, include a link to the original article in the description. 

Repeat this strategy for every video you create so that each of your top traffic pages has a YouTube-uploaded video associated with it.

Day 30: Complete pending tasks

Congratulations! You’ve made it to day 30 to improve your SEO traffic.

This last day is when you’ll work on any pending tasks that you haven’t finished yet.
