People are “cloned” in seconds: the new Unreal Engine technology Hellblade 2

To transfer the image of a person to the game, you only need an iPhone. The innovative technology is already being used in Hellblade 2.

Unreal Engine held a presentation where she talked about the game engine and MetaHuman Animator technology, a system that “copies” a face and a person and converts the resulting one into a 3D model. The resulting data can be used to recreate realistic characters in games. See what it looks like:

The “cloning” process takes place using the iPhone’s camera and takes a couple of seconds. You just need to capture the face and facial expressions of a person on video. Then the data is transferred to a computer, and the MetaHuman Animator program converts the human image into a three-dimensional model: this takes about 3 minutes.

The result is hyperrealistic characters with believable facial expressions. Previously, creating such 3D models required expensive equipment and hours of laborious work from developers.

According to Unreal Engine, MetaHuman Animator technology is already being used in the development of Hellblade 2. The creators of Hellblade 2 stated that they “copied” the human face, added the image to the game, and did not edit the 3D model in any way. The studio has already shown the trailer of the project, so we can evaluate the work of “cloning” ourselves:
